Mr Chris Ogiemwonyi, one of the Edo State prominent politician has suggested that Gov. Godwin Obaseki. does not deserve to be given a second term in office. Obaseki is having one of the worst times in his political journey as he battles to retain the governorship seat as Edo prepares for an election.
The governor faces the odds from his predecessor and chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole and his loyalists.
However Ogiemwonyi has been recommend that Obaseki should not be allowed to even become the candidate of the party ahead of the election. He also added that Obaseki was forced on the people of the state in the last election. He argued that Edo needed to move forward and as such, the governor does not deserve to return.
Speaking in Abuja at the APC secretariat, he said Obaseki was not in the calculation for the governorship, but that it was Oshiomhole who helped him. Ogiemwonyi said he is in support of the direct primaries proposed and adopted by the party for the primary election in Edo state. The primary election has been slated for June 22.
Ogiemwonyi also noted that, direct primaries will not only bring the people together but give them a sense of belonging. The governorship aspirant recalled what he passed through as a result of the indirect primaries conducted in 2016 which brought up Obaseki.
